Malayala Manorama editor KM Mathew passes away

Kottayam, Aug 1: Former chairman of Press Trust of India and Malayala Manorama chief editor K M Mathew passed away at his residence on Sunday, Aug 1.

According to the family sources funeral will take place at Puthenpally church cemetery on Monday, Aug 2.

Born on Jan 2, 1917, Mathew joined the organization as Managing Editor in 1954 and became chief editor in 1973.

Mathew had played a key role in making Malayala Manorama asone of the major Indian language daily after he took over the reins of the media house a few decades back.

93-year-old Mathew is survived by three sons, Mammen Mathew, Philip Mathew and Jacob Mathew and a daughter. His wife had predeceased him.

He has received many awards including the Padma Bhushan, National Citizen's award and B D Goenka Award.
