New Delhi, Jul 30: The food inflation may have come down to a single digit mark, but there seems to be no stopping the Opposition, which managed to stall the Parliament proceedings for the fourth day on Friday, Jul 30, leading to the adjournment of both the houses for the day.

The united Opposition led by Sushma Swaraj demanded a discussion followed by voting on the issue of price rise in Lok Sabha.

"I request you to adjourn the question hour and accept our notice for adjournment as per the rule 184 (which entails voting)," Swaraj told Speaker Meira Kumar, who rejected the demand.

The speaker tried to carry on by calling for the questions listed for the day amid the din. However, it became impossible to hold the proceedings as many opposition MPs advanced to the Speaker's podium, shouting slogans.

The bedlam forced the speaker to adjourn the house till noon at first, and later for the day.

Similar scenes were seen in the Rajya Sabha, prompting the Chairman Hamid Ansari to adjourn the house till Monday, Aug 2.

Thus, the first week of the Monsoon session ended with no real business being transacted.
