SC to hear appeals of Mumbai blasts on Jan 2011

New Delhi, Jul 26: The Supreme Court decided to hear the appeal proceedings against the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts convicts from Jan 11, 2011.

A bench comprising Justices P Sathasivam and BS Chauhan also issued notices to the convicts on the appeal of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) seeking enhancement of punishment for them.

The special TADA court had convicted 100 people in the Mumbai blasts case.

At least 257 people were killed and over 700 others injured in the Mumbai serial blasts in 1993.

12 convicts were awarded death sentence and 20 were given life imprisonment in the blast case.
