West Bengal: Maoists kill primary school teacher

Jhargram, Jul 24: A primary school teacher was brutally butuchered by the suspected red rebels here.

Rabindranath Mahato, a teacher at the Indraboni Primary School, was dragged out of the school onto a road where the assailants hacked him with an axe and later shot him from a close range right in front of primary school students, a leading TV news channel reported on Saturday, Jul 24.

Mahato is believed to have enraged the Maoists for not allowing his students to take part in an anti-government rally in West Midnapore district.

The Mahato's students were not the only ones who were not present at the Friday, Jul 23 rally as some villagers of Radhanagar, five km from Jhargram also decided to give it a miss to indicate dissent.

In a separate incident, a Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) supporter, Madhu Mondal was also
shot dead by the rebels outside his house at Balarampur in West Bengal's Purulia district.
