Mumbai, July 22 (ANI): An empty chlorine cylinder at a Koliwada at Worli beach in Mumbai caused panic among the residents. But officials said it posed no danger, as it was empty.

The cylinder was disposed of into the sea after there was a gas leak at Bombay Port Trust (BPT) on July 14.

It was found floating in the sea in Worli on Wednesday and the National Disaster Response Force team reached the site where the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) took the cylinder for examination.

The officials of the CISF said it managed to break from the weights that were tied to it and was floating because it was empty.

"These were empty gas cylinder and this was used as a testing tool to dump the 900 litre cylinder for which the operation could not be carried out. The operation was carried out in this one," said Vinay Kajla, Commandant of CISF.

"We had tied it up with weights. The gas inside is so high, the pressure it managed to break open those weights. It's an empty cylinder. All empty cylinders float, this one floated and came back. We will now take it back to our store and we will re-examine," assured Kajla.

The CISF has taken the cylinder back to the Sewdi port trust. By Raziq Khan (ANI)
