TDP calls for Andhra bandh
Hyderabad, Jul 19: The Telugu Desam Party has given a call for bandh on Monday, Jul 19 in Andhra Pradesh.
The bandh is against the denial of permission by the Maharashtra government to TDP leaders to visit the Babli project on Godavari river and to protest the arrest of its chief N Chandrababu Naidu in Maharashtra.
"We have given a call for bandh. Maharashtra government should allow us to visit Babli and 13 other projects along with the media," TDP MP, Nama Nageswar Rao told.
Educational institutions, shops and business establishments were closed in parts of Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Kakinada, Tirupati and Guntur.
Many TDP activists were arrested for staging road blockades and for forcing closure of shops in different districts.
The shutdown, however, had little impact in some areas as normal traffic was on the roads while markets also opened.
TDP leader Chandra Babu Naidu was arrested in Maharashtra for disturbing the law and order situation.
