Questions raised over 1,423 Goa govt committees
Panaji, Jul 19: Various questions were raised in the Goa legislative assembly over the 1,423 government committees and about their functionaries.
Goa Chief Minister Digambar Kamat stated on Monday, Jul 19 that Goa had recruited 1,423 government committees over the last three years from 2007.
During Question Hour of the monsoon session, opposition benches commented that half of the committees had not met each other after their formations.
Kamat stated that the committees were set up for various purposes like "monitoring of specific issues".
"Some of these committees are also statutory committees," said Kamat.
But the opposition leaders pointed out that rush for appointing committees at the rate of more than one per day was creating mismanagement in state's affairs.
Opposition leader Manohar Parrikar asked, "What work do these committees do? Nothing! There is one health department committee, where there is only one member, which is the health minister. How do these committees help?"
"The chief minister himself is a chairman of 25 committees," said Parrikar.
