Infosys to gag employees on social media
Bangalore, Jul 14: Employees of the Infosys will soon be forced to adhere to a conduct of conduct while on social networking and micro blogging sites such as Facebook and Twitter.
The Bangalore-based IT behemoth has announced its plans to roll out a social media policy, which will list out the dos and don'ts for the Infoscions.
"We plan to roll out a social media policy shortly. It would be a policy akin to a code of conduct of the company and which employees would have to adhere to. Such a policy is prevalent outside India," Senior Vice-President and Global Head, Human Resources (Infosys), Nandita Gurjar said.
The move by the company was prompted by certain incidents in which the employees were found discussing projects and clients details on networking sites, which was in violation of clause of confidentiality.
"The policy would mainly enlist do's and don't about revealing projects or client engagements," she added.
Besides this, the company also would to impose restrictions against making any personal comments.
The policy is expected to be rolled out in Aug 2010.
Once the policy is effected, the employees will be accountable for their comments they make on the social media. Breach of policy would invite disciplinary action, which may range from a warning to termination from services.
