SC gives green signal to TN 69 pc quota

New Delhi, Jul 13: 69 percent quota for jobs and admissions should continue for a year, said the Supreme Court to Tamil Nadu government on Tuesday, July 13.

The apex court instructed the Tamil Nadu Backward Class Commission to study the quota introduced in Tamil Nadu and see if it is justified during this period.

The Commission had been also asked to consider the exceptions provided under the Mandal judgement that in certain circumstances, the 50 per cent cap on quota can be exceeded.

The state government now has to justify the quota to the Commission.
