Jawans killed in Kupwara gun battle
Srinagar, Jul 1: Two Army jawans were killed in an encounter with the infiltrators on the Line of Control (LoC) in Kupwara district of north Kashmir on Thursday, Jul 1 morning, informed a defence spokesperson.
Army troops who noticed a group of heavenly-armed militants trying to infiltrate the border had a fight with them. The infiltrators were trying to come to the other side of the LoC in Machhil sector which is 140 km away from Srinagar.
Security people challenged them after which they had a gunfight with each other which claimed the lives of two jawans.
Police official also said that the infiltrators' number could not be ascertained immediately. The exchange of fire was continuing when reports last came in.
