State govt to probe into Sopore firing
Srinagar, Jun 27: Jammu Kashmir government ordered a judicial inquiry into the Sopore incident, which claimed the lives of two teenagers on Friday, Jun 25.
Police said that the deceased teenagers, Shakeel Ahmad Ganai (14) and Firdous Ahmad Kakroo (17) lost their lives in the encounter between CRPF troopers and a group of protestors who stoned and torched the vehicles of CRPF officials.
The death of the civilians brewed agitations in the valley and an indefinite curfew was imposed on Friday, Jun 25. Civilians defied the curfew and took to streets on Saturday, Jun 26.
Public accused cops for using excessive force and ignoring standard operating procedures in dealing with the rioters.
