Parliamentary panel recommends salary hike for MPs
New Delhi, Jun 27: Parliamentary board has recommeded to increase the monthly salary of MPs from Rs 16,000 to Rs 80,001 which is a rupee more than a Sectary to the Union Government.
The suggestion is under the consideration of Government. PK Bansal, Parliamentary Affairs Minister said that the extent of salary hike and allowances of MPs has not yet decided.
"Nothing has been finalised. Everything is under discussion. Very soon, we will take it up with concerned ministries. We hope to take it to the Cabinet so as to introduce a bill in the coming session of Parliament beginning next month," Bansal said.
He also said that there is nothing wrong in Parliament revising the relevant Act periodically, to track the view of increased expenses and cost of living.
The last hike in the salaries and allowances of MPs was a decade before. Last time the salary of 795 MPs including 545 from Lok Sabha and 250 from Rajya Sabha was increased before ten years.
