Five arrested with fake currency notes worth Rs. 12 lakh in West Bengal
Malda (West Bengal), June 27(ANI): Sleuths of West Bengal Police on Sunday nabbed five people, including a woman, in West Bengal's Malda District, and seized fake currency notes worth Rs. 12 lakh from their possession.
Malda Superintendent of Police, Bhuvan Chandra Mondal, said that they had received intelligence information about a bulk amount of fake currency noted being smuggled into India from Bangladesh.
The policemen then reached the proposed spot as decoy customers and arrested the culprits.
"A police team disguised as buyers went to the spot. They charged Rs. 32,000 for every (bundle of) Rs. 100,000 of fake currency notes. Five people including a woman have been arrested with the fake notes amounting to Rs. 12 lakh. The notes are of Rs. 500 denomination," Mondal said.
Mondal also said that they are investigating the source of the currency, and who else are involved in the racket of counterfeit currency notes. (ANI)
