Commonwealth Express to begin journey on Jun 24
New Delhi, Jun 24: A special exhibition train aimed at promoting the Commonwealth Games 2010 will begin its journey on Thursday, Jun 24.
Union Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee will be flagging off the Commonwealth Express, which is a joint venture between the railway ministry and the information and technology ministry, in the national capital.
Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit and officials from the organising committee and railway ministry will attend the flagging off ceremony.
Carrying the logo of the Commonwealth Games and the Indian Railways, the train with 11 coaches will travel to all states. It has 50 stoppages at selected stations across India.
Amritsar has been scheduled as the first destination so that the train's arrival would coincide with the arrival of the Queen's Baton from Pakistan on Jun 25.
