Suspected Maoists kill three in Chhattisgarh District

Kanker/Bijapur (Chhattisgarh), June 14 (ANI): Suspected Maoist killed a police official and two villagers in Chhattisgarh on Sunday.

Assistant Sub Inspector Shiv Kumar Mandwi was fired in a busy marketplace of Kanker district.

Officials said that though Mandwi was carrying a service revolver, he was unable to defend himself in the ambush as gunmen opened fire.

"We are investigating the case and all steps would be taken to nab the gunmen," said Deepak Jha, Sub-Divisional Officer of Police (SDO-P) in Kanker's Pakhanpur division.

In a separate incident, two villagers were allegedly killed by Maoists.

Aged 19 and 18 respectively, Podium Dhaniram and Telam Santu worked in small shops in a village market of Bijapur.

"Since both of them were shopkeepers, Maoists must have demanded money or other items from them which they refused to fulfill. In my opinion, they were killed for not complying with the Maoists' extortion demand," said Ashok Singh, SDO-P of Bijapur. (ANI)
