Mallya to enter Rajya Sabha with JD(S) support
Bangalore, Jun 7: Vijay Mallya will file his nomination for the seat in Rajya Sabha by-polls on Monday, Jun 7. He is set for a fight, with the JD(S) support, in the by-polls for Rajya Sabha to be held on June 17.
JD(S) is to held a meeting on Monday, Jun 7, which is expected to declare the support Mallya. Hemanth Kumar spoke to YSV Datta, the JD(S) general secretary, regarding the matter.
Vijay Mallya will perhaps get elected unopposed, following a deal with the JD(S) and BJP. Mallya is believed to have struck his deal with the two major parties, where as Congress is said to have not fielding a candidate against him.
The state has to send four members to Rajya Sabha for which each candidate should get 46 votes to win. BJP, which has most number of MLAs is fielding three candidates and Congress, one. JD(S) with its 27 votes can help one candidate win, if it has the support of either Congress or BJP.
"We are fielding just one candidate. As we didn't forge an alliance with the JD (S), we don't have enough numbers to put another candidate in the fray," said a senior Congress leader. He added that if JD (S) supports Mallya and BJP decides not to oppose him, he'd surely get elected unimpeded.
