Another air scare at Mumbai Airport

A
head-on
collision
of
two
flights
was
averted
at
the
Mumbai
airport
on
Thursday,
Jun
3
night,
when
a
Kingfisher
flight
was
cleared
for
landing
at
a
runway
where
a
Spicejet
plane
was
already
stationed
due
to
a
technical
fault.
The
Mumbai-chennai
Spicejet
flight
had
to
cancel
the
take-off
from
Mumbai
at
around
11
pm,
as
it
developed
a
technical
problem
at
the
last
minute.
The
Air
Traffic
Control(ATC)
asked
the
flight
to
abort
the
take-off.
At the same time, the Delhi-Mumbai Kingfisher flight was given permission for landing at the same runway.
ATC asked the pilot of the Kingfisher flight to go around after which the flight landed just in time. Pilot complied with the ATC instruction, informed a spokesperson of Kingfisher. He also said that the flight landed at Mumbai airport safely.
“Shortly before the Kingfisher Airline flight IT318 was to land at Mumbai Airport, the ATC requested the captain of the flight to do a go around. The captain immediately complied with the ATC instruction and was re-vectored a fresh approach" the spokesperson said. He also added that the flight was landed at the Mumbai Airport shortly thereafter.
