Another air scare at Mumbai Airport

Mumbai, Jun 4: A head-on collision of two flights was averted at the Mumbai airport on Thursday, Jun 3 night, when a
Kingfisher flight was cleared for landing at a runway where a Spicejet plane was already stationed due to a technical fault.

The Mumbai-chennai Spicejet flight had to cancel the take-off from Mumbai at around 11 pm, as it developed a technical
problem at the last minute. The Air Traffic Control(ATC) asked the flight to abort the take-off.

At the same time, the Delhi-Mumbai Kingfisher flight was given permission for landing at the same runway.

ATC asked the pilot of the Kingfisher flight to go around after which the flight landed just in time. Pilot complied with the ATC instruction, informed a spokesperson of Kingfisher. He also said that the flight landed at Mumbai airport safely.

“Shortly before the Kingfisher Airline flight IT318 was to land at Mumbai Airport, the ATC requested the captain of the flight to do a go around. The captain immediately complied with the ATC instruction and was re-vectored a fresh approach" the spokesperson said. He also added that the flight was landed at the Mumbai Airport shortly thereafter.
