Kolkata, June 2 (ANI): Railway Minister and Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday thanked the masses for their staunch support, as her party won 95 seats out of the total 141 seats in the Kolkata Municipal Corporation.
Amid celebrations by party workers, Banerjee said that the party's sweeping victory in the state was a reflection of the people's faith and trust on the TMC.
Deeming it a 'people's verdict', she expressed joy and satisfaction on the performance of her party.
"The people have given their verdict from Lok Sabha elections to by-elections to these municipal elections. Today, the results of the elections are out and they are throughout the state," said Banerjee.
"It is not only in Kolkata but also throughout the sate. The people have given a 100 percent verdict," she added.
Trinamool supporters, overjoyed by the party's performance, were seen jumping and chanting 'Vande Mataram' on the streets. Praises such as 'Trinamool Amar Rahe' (Long Live Trinamool), the jubilant party workers smeared each other's foreheads with colours.
On the decision of the Congress party not to tie with the Trinamool Congress for the civic pools, Banerjee said the decision to go alone was taken by the congress and not by her.
"No, it is not my decision. It was the Congress's decision not to go with us. They can take a decision (since) they are an important political party and it is their prerogative," she added.
Banerjee further criticised West Bengal's ruling Left Front Government for being 'anti-people'.
"The government here is not performing. It is very dangerous if the government does not perform. There are so many incidents of atrocities, Maoists violence and torture in the state. The government must perform," she said. (ANI)
