Gujarat HC uphold sentence in Akshardham attack
Ahmedabad, June1: Gujarat High Court has upheld the death sentence of three men found guilty of the terror attack on the Akshardham temple in 2002. Thirty-two people died when militants stormed inside the temple in Gandhinagar.
In 2006, a lower court gave the death sentence to three terrorists: Adam Ajmeri, Shan Miya alias Chand Khan from Bareilly, and Mufti Abdul Qayyum Mansuri. A total of six men were convicted in the case.
Gujarat High Court upheld the decision of death sentence to two terrorists and Life sentence to one after the state government asked the High Court to ratify the death sentence. The men sentenced also filed petition in the higher court against the death sentence. The High Court had finished hearings in both cases in April 2008. The order had been reserved since then.
