Maya's cleaning drive an eyewash: Cong

Lucknow, May 5: Congress has slammed Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mayawati's cleaning drive, calling the move as mere 'eyewash' and dared the BSP Chief to first expel 'outlaws holding the status of minister in her government'.

Mayawati has recently expelled 500 party members with criminal antecedents as part of its move to clean the party of corrupt members.

Questioning the Chief Minister's sincerity in the issue, Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh challenged her to get rid outlaws holding the status of minister.

"The fact is that despite her repeated declarations over the past few days, her party is yet to release the list of names of expelled partymen."

"Let her declare the names and positions they were occupying in the party," he said.

Singh said that the Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's "chetna yatras" (awareness marches) in Uttar Pradesh were a 'grand success'.

He said that his party would issue charge-sheet to expose Mayawati's corrupt ways

"We will issue a charge-sheet against Mayawati demanding an account of the state exchequer that is being literally plundered by her," Singh said.
