Plane hijack plot foiled in Kolkata, two detained

Kolkata, May 5: Just days after a terror alert was sound in Kolkata, an apparent plane hijack plot was foiled at the airport here.

A SpiceJet plane was forced to make an emergency after Air Traffic Controller (ATC) at the NSC Bose International Airport learnt of some suspicious activities on the plane.

The Captain of the plane was reportedly the one who tipped off the ATC at around 11: 50 am that two passengers onboard the Delhi-bound flight were heard discussing a hijack plot.

According to sources, the Flight SG 208 made a priority landing at around noon on Wednesday, May 5.

After the aircraft landed, CSIF, bomb squad, fire brigade and police immediately cordoned it off on the runway.

The two 'suspicious' passengers, who triggered off the alert in the airport, have been detained.

Earlier there were reports, that one of the detainees was a man in burqa based on the large physique of the person. However, it was later found that the person clad in the burqa was a woman.

The two passengers are being questioned.
