Mob ransacks hospital for not treating injured
Kolkata, Apr 13: A private hospital was ransacked by a mob in Kolkata, after the doctors refused to give treatment injured in an accident.
According to police, the accident took place in Patauli area when matador carrying 30 persons collided head-on with a lorry, killing six persons and leaving nine others injured.
Soon after the accident, a mob of about 200 persons gatecrashed the Peerless hospital with the injured and insisted that they be immediately admitted.
"They went on the rampage after the hospital authorities refused to do so," police said.
The mob then set fire to furniture, medical equipment, including stretchers, and ransacked the restaurant inside the hospital.
The injured were then rushed to state-run M R Bangur Hospital.
Police had to fire in the air to disperse the mob. West Bengal sports minister Kanti Ganguly visited the hospital in order to pacify the protesters.
