Inquiry into navy officer's links with Russians

New Delhi, Apr 13: An inquiry has been launched against a senior Indian Navy officer over 'morality-related' issues on his part which could have hampered the success of the Gorshkov project.

"An inquiry has been initiated against Commodore Sukhjinder Singh. He was in charge of the aircraft carrier project in Russia and was stationed there for long. He was the seniormost officer looking after the project," the navy officer is quoted as saying in a news agency report.

The probe against the officer involved in the acquisition of the aircraft carrier Admiral Gorshkov was launched on the allegations that he was closely involved with the Russians which could have led to the escalation of cost of the project.

The official added that the probe aims at ascertaining the 'proximity' of the 'linkage' between the officer and the Russians.

"There is also a morality-related issue," the officer added.

He, however, declined to elaborate on the statement.
