Non-bailable warrant against Raj Thackeray
Muzaffarpur, Apr 5: A Bihar court on Tuesday, Apr 6, issued a non-bailable warrant against MNS chief Raj Thackeray for his comments on Chhath Puja.
Thackeray had made a statement saying, "North Indians should not celebrate Chhath Puja as it is against the ethos of Marathi culture."
This had deeply hurt the Bihari community that holds Chhath Puja in great reverence.
Senior Advocate Sudhir Ojha had filed a complaint seeking legal action against Thackeray on his reported statement in Mumbai on Feb 28, 2008.
First Class Judicial Magistrate Reshma Verma ordered the issue of the body warrant against Thackeray after he failed to appear before the court in compliance with its earlier order on Dec 4, 2009.
Verma also directed the Commissioner of Mumbai Police to arrest Thackeray and produce him before the court on May 7.
