PC arrives in Lalgarh to review anti-Maoist opns
Lalgarh, Apr 4: Union Home Minister P Chidambaram on Sunday, Apr 4, arrived in Largarh in West Bengal to review the anti-Maoist operations here.
Chidambaram is the first Union minister to visit the area after anti-Naxal operations began in the district in Jun 2009.
The Home Minister arrived in the Naxal heartland on a helicopter at 8:00 am along with state Home Secretary Ardhendu Sen and DGP Bhupinder Singh.
According to reports, Chidambaram is due to visit a CRPF camp and a primary health centre. Later in the day, he is expected to address the press.
On Saturday, Apr 3, Maoists blasted a powerful landmine targeting CRPF personnel in West Midnapore district ahead of Chidamabaram's visit to Lalgarh.
The Maoist-backed tribal group People's Committee against Police Atrocities (PCPA) has also called for a 24-hour bandh on Apr 4, in West Midnapore, Bankura and Purulia districts to protest the Home Minister's visit.
