Ericsson wins $1.3 bn network deal from Airtel
Stockholm, Mar 31: Swedish telecommunications giant LM Ericsson on Wednesday, Mar 31, announced that it has won a $1.3 billion network expansion contract from top Indian operator Bharti Airtel.
Ericsson said the expansion will help Airtel to put a converged network into place and expand its coverage in rural India.
The contract covers Airtel networks in 15 of 22 telecom circles and will result in better voice quality and faster data access for users.
"In addition, Ericsson will ensure that Bharti Airtel's core and transport network is 3G-ready in order to reduce time to market and enable the fast rollout of 3G services at a later date," Ericsson said in a statement.
