HC rejects PIL against Maya's multi-crore garland
Lucknow, Mar 22: In a major relief for Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati, the Lucknow bench of Allahabad High Court has rejected a PIL seeking CBI probe into the alleged expenses of about Rs 200 crore during the BSP rally in Lucknow, including the multi-crore garland gifted to Mayawati in the rally.
A division bench comprising of acting chief justice of the Allahabad high court justice Amitava Lala and justice Anil Kumar, dismissed the PIL filed by three local lawyers on Mar 18 after hearing the argument of both the parties.
The petitioners alleged that the BSP spent approximately Rs 175 crore of public money in the 'maharally' to commemorate the 25th foundation day and additional Rs 25 crore on the garland gifted to Mayawati during the occassion.
Mayawati's multi-crore cash garland created quite an uproar both inside and the outside the parliament. The opposition demanded a CBI probe on the source behind the cash garland.
The Income Tax department is investigating the source of money for the garland presented to Mayawati.
