Telangana: OU student's body taken to AP assembly
Hyderabad, Mar 10: The body of the Osmania University student, who committed suicide on Tuesday, Mar 9 to protest the delay in the formation of new state of Telangana, was taken to the Andhra Pradesh state assembly in the night so that 'T' supporters could pay their last respects.
Sai Kumar, a second year BTech student of OU, who hanged himself in his hostel room, had reportedly expressed a wish that his body should be taken on a procession to the assembly.
The suicide, which is the third reported suicide over the Telangana statehood issue, led to more agitations at the university as the students clashed with police on being stopped from taking the student's body to assembly.
The police had to again resort to baton charge.
It was only later when the State Human Rights Commission directed police to allow the funeral procession to Gun Park near the assembly, that the students were allowed to take the body there.
The commission's directive came in response to a petition by the Joint Action Committee of students.
Kumar's last rites will be performed in his native village Kodad in Nalgonda district on Wednesday, Mar 10.
