India vows $5 mn relief to earthquake-torn Chile
New Delhi, Mar 5: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has pledged a financial aid of 5 million dollars towards relief and rehabilitation in the earthquake-torn Chile.
Condoling the loss of lives in the disaster, Prime Minister wrote a letter to President Michelle Bachelet.
"It is with profound sadness that I have learnt of the massive earthquake that hit Chile causing immense loss of life and damage to property and infrastructure across the country.
“On behalf of the government and people of India, I would like to express deep sympathy and condolences to the people of Chile on this great tragedy. Our thoughts and prayers are with the members of the bereaved families," PM said in the letter.
As per the data available now, the death toll of the earthquake stands at 799, with half of it coming from the coastal region of Maule.
