CPI(M) men attack Makkal TV office
Chennai, Mar 5: Irate CPI(M) workers allegedly attacked the office of a TV channel owned by PMK founder S Ramadoss on Friday, Mar 5 over the channel's report on the recent death of Communist leader W R Varadarajan, police said.
Police said that the Makkal TV office was ransacked by around 100 CPI(M) workers who had gathered outside the office.
The party workers damaged the property and the equipment in the office.
Some of the staffs were hurt in the attack, Makkal TV employees said.
In retaliatory attack CPI(M) headquarters were allegedly ransacked by the PMK workers. Vehicles, office furniture and property were damaged, police said.
Meanwhile, P Sampath, a member of the CPI(M) state secretariat said that the party workers who were holding a peaceful protest outside the Makkal office turned violent after stones were pelted at them from inside.
Some armed PMK workers barged into CPI(M) headquarters and damaged as well as uprooted some flagpoles, Sampath said.
Former CPI(M) member Varadarajan had allegedly committed suicide, following his removal from the national secretary of CPI(M) labour wing CITU on moral grounds.
His decomposed body was found days after he was reported missing on Feb 11.
