Highest priority to women's quota bill, says Sonia

New Delhi, Mar 4: Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Thursday, Mar 4, said that she would accord the "highest priority" to the women's reservation bill.

Women's reservation bill would be introduced in the Lok Sabha on Mar 8, International Women's Day.

Addressing a meeting, Sonia Gandhi said, "The food security bill would also be introduced in Parliament in the ongoing session."

Party sources said that Gandhi praised finance minister Pranab Mukherjee for presenting a balanced budget.

The proposal for providing 33 percent reservation to women in legislatures has been pending for over 13 years.

Congress, the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Left have backed the Constitution (108th Amendment) Bill, while Samajwadi Party, Rashtria Janata Dal and Janata Dal-United have opposed it.
