Jammu, Feb 17: As many as 250 activists of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) landed in jail after they took to streets protesting the Union Home Minister P Chidambaram's move on rehabilitation of militants from Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK).
Seven BJP MLAs were among those arrested by the police.
The activists and MLAs gathered at Bikram Chowk on Wednesday, Feb 17 morning, and attempted to gherao the Home Minister. However, they failed to do so as the union minister's cavalcade was secured with tight police security.
The protesters indulged in slogan shouting against Chidambaram as well as Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
A party spokesperson informed that the seven MLAs arrested were Chaman Lal Gupta, Ashok Khajuria, Garu Ram, Choudhary Shyam, Jagdish Raj Sapolia, Bharat Bushan and Baldev Raj.
The party was planning to gherao P Chidambaram on the issue of the surrender policy of militants held across the LOC.
This attempt was foiled by authorities and police personnel were deployed to prevent the protesters from gathering.
