NSA Menon meets Karunanidhi, discusses Sri Lankan Tamil issue

Chennai, Jan 31(ANI): National Security Advisor (NSA) Shivshnkar Menon said here on Sunday that India is working with the Sri Lankan Government for resettlement and rehabilitation of displaced Tamils.

Interacting with media after meeting Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, Menon expressed confidence about a devolution of powers in Sri Lanka that would satisfy all sections.

"I assured him that the Centre would continue to do whatever it can," Menon said.

He said the Indian Government was continuously holding talks with Sri Lanka on resettlement of Tamils with adequate devolvement of powers.

"We are working with the Sri Lankan Government both in terms of resettlement of displaced people and also in terms of devolution of power in the political arrangement that will satisfy all the communities in Sri Lanka," Menon added.

He said that India insist that the Tamilian displaced should get resettle and rehabilitate by the Sri Lankan Government in the same place where they lived before the outbreak of the war and should get adequate powers.

Menon described his meeting with Karunanidhi as a courtesy call and said both of them discussed various issues of concern.

"The Chief Minister was kind enough to receive me," Menon added.

He said Karunanidhi had expressed concern over Indian fishermen and their treatment in Sri Lanka and also on the issue of the condition of displaced Tamils. (ANI)
