Power Minister Shinde to give away awards for performance in power sector
New Delhi, Jan 29 (ANI): Union Power Minister Sushilkumar Shinde will give away the National Awards for meritorious performance in power sector here today.
The scope of the scheme was enlarged with a view to cover all the segments of power sector and the existing scheme of award in respect of thermal power stations was also modified in view of evolving requirements.
The objective of this scheme is to develop a spirit of competitiveness among the various power stations, companies in thermal, hydro and nuclear generation, transmission, distribution and rural distribution franchisees for achieving improved performancet also aims at encouraging personnel engaged in the power utilities to improve their efficiency and productivity and show better results.
The award scheme was introduced by the Ministry of Power in 1983 for recognizing the meritorious performance of thermal power stations.
The scheme was modified in 1992-93 to recognize the improvements in performance of thermal power stations during the peak demand period of the day and also to deter pumping of unscheduled power into the grid during off-peak periods of the day in violation of instructions of system controllers and also for not carrying out maintenance as per programme.
