Amar must quit RS, says new SP gen secy

New Delhi, Jan 27: Samajwadi Party's new general secretary Mohan Singh on Wednesday, Jan 27, demanded the resignation of Amar Singh from Rajya Sabha on moral grounds.

Mohan Singh, who was appointed in place of Amar Singh, said, "Since he has resigned as party's General Secretary, member of Parliamentary Board and as spokesperson, he has already detached himself from the party."

He further said, "Rajya Sabha membership is given by the party and, therefore, he should resign from Rajya Sabha also."

Mohan Singh's statement came shortly after his appointment which coincided with Amar Singh's 54th birthday today.

On Dec 6, 2009, Amar Singh had quit from all party posts over differences with relatives of the SP chief.
