BJP slams government for price rise
New Delhi, Jan 13 (ANI): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday sought the resignation of Food and Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar for failing to act on the price rise.
The BJP'S latest salvo came after sugar prices touched Rupees 50 per kilogram.
"If he (Sharad Pawar) is unable to control price rise. It is his moral responsibility to resign from the post," said Rajiv Pratap Rudy, BJP spokesperson.
"Government has lost the credibility to govern and is trying to trivialise the issue," he added.
Rudy further said if Pawar was not in a position to tell when prices will come down, the Prime Minister should explain.
Pawar had earlier said sugar production has been low and the government has consequently decided to import about 40 lakh tons of raw sugar.
Around two million tons of sugar have already arrived in the country and are being processed.
There are reports that the Centre may extend the deadline for import of duty-free white sugar beyond March 31 to augment domestic supply and curb the rising price. (ANI)
