Political activist attempts self-immolation in Ranchi

Ranchi, Jan 11 (ANI): A mentally depressed political activist tried to set himself of fire in the presence of Food Processing Minister Subodh Kant Sahay here on Sunday.

Sahay was hosting a picnic party when the immolation bid took place.

Party workers quickly doused the fire, saving his life.

Sahay said the 55-year-old activist, identified as Diwakar, was mentally depressed after his wife passed away.

"His wife has expired few days back; two of his daughters are sitting idle at home. This is mere depression that he took such a major step; there is nothing to do with the party with the attempt. We all are grieving," he added.

Police are investigating the reason behind the immolation bid. (ANI)
