Chennai, Jan 9: Caught under the public scanner for watching a Tamil Nadu sub-inspector bleed to death after he was attacked by a gang in Tirunelveli District on Friday, Jan 8, the ministers are now acting defensive.

Health Minister M R K Panneerselvam, who halted his convoy on seeing the injured R Vetrival said that he was too shocked to react.

" I called for an ambulance and was waiting for it to arrive. But when we realised that it is going to take time. We took him in one of the cars," Panneerselvam said.

According to an eye witness R Vetrival, who was lying in a pool in a blood with a severed leg begged the ministerial convoy who had passed by for help minutes after he was attacked by gang at Alwarkuruchi.

" He pleaded for help for nearly half an hour. Even the ministers were there but nobody came for his help," said an eyewitness.

Health Minister M R K Panneerselvam and Youth and Sports Development Mohideen Khan stopped their convoy on seeing the profusely bleeding Vetrival battling for life.

However, instead of trying to help the dying officer, they watch him bleed to death.

Vetrival who was later taken to the hospital succumbed to his injuries.

44-year-old sub-inspector was a part of the Special Task Force that gunned down forest brigade Veerapan in 2004.
