Osmania University burns over Telangana

Hyderabad, Dec 24: Students in support of a separate statehood for Telangana staged demonstrations in Osmania University (OU) campus and in front of the nearby police station prompting deployment of security forces here to bring the situation under control.

The students who were planning on taking out a mock funeral procession of UPA leaders were stopped by security forces consisting of anti-riot Rapid Action Force and other paramilitary forces.

The university, which has been a hot spot for pro Telangana agitations, remained tense as students refused to disperse despite repeated requests from senior police officials.

Joint Action Committee (JAC) of Osmania University Students Association have begun a hunger strike in front of the Arts College.

Andhra Pradesh went into a state of turmoil once again over the Centre's latest statement calling for wide-ranging consultations with all political parties and groups on the Telangana issue.
