Mumbai, Dec 18: The Oct 27 murder of a woman by alleged chain snatchers was actually a 'contract murder' committed by the husband, the city police has found.

When the police investigated into the murder of 39-year-old Beena Dedhia who was killed in Central Mumbai by two motorcyclists during her morning walk, they found that the husband who was pretending to be the victim of the ghastly act was the one behind it.

Jitendra Dedhia, who was having an illicit affair with Beena's sister-in-law (bhabhi) Roopal Chedda, allegedly hired people to kill her and make it look like a routine chain-snatching-cum-murder incident.

“Since Dedhia was the only eye witness, we questioned over 450 known chain-snatchers to get leads on the duo who had committed the crime. However, our investigations revealed that it was not a chain snatching incident but a carefully planned out murder plotted by Jitendra Dedhia," Joint Police Commissioner (Crime) Rakesh Maria revealed on Thursday, Dec 17.

The police has arrested the husband along with the sister-in-law Roopal.

Hasrudding Malik and Mohammad Nasim Khan, who stabbed the woman; along with Rajnikant Wagh, who arranged Jiten's meeting with the killers, have also been arrested.
