PM pushes for affordable housing, making cities slum-free
New Delhi, Dec 3 (ANI): Marking the fourth anniversary of the Jawaharlal Nehru Urban Renewal Mission here, the Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, pushed for state governments and civic bodies to provide affordable housing, thereby relieving the city of its slums.
Singh said this could be achieved through public financing and public-private partnerships, adding that the Government's Rajiv Awaas Yojna would create space in the city for those residing in slums at present.
He stressed on the need for pacing up the municipal reform process. He also emphasised on the need for an effective and a clean transport system aiming at better urban infrastructure. (ANI)
