Jahngirpuri corporal punishment: NHRC seeks report

New Delhi, Dec 3: NHRC has sought a report from the Directorate of Education within four weeks on the corporal punishment of twelve-year-old student in government school in Jahngirpuri.

The commission's cognizance came in the wake of media coverage given to the corporal punishment meted out to Lucky Bhola, a senior student of Bal Vidyalaya in Jahngirpuri.

"Contents of the press report, if true, raise serious issue of the violation of human rights of Lucky Bhola," NHRC said in amedia report.

Bhola was beaten up by his teacher Brahma Prakash for going out of the classroom to drink water without seeking his permission.

The incident came to light when Bhola complained to his parents of severe pain in his injured hand.
