Vehicle battery blast kills four Army personnel in Jalandhar
Jalandhar, Dec 2 (ANI): Four Indian Army soldiers were killed last night when battery of an army vehicle, which they were recharging, exploded in the Motor Transport (MT) Section unit in the Jalandhar Cantonment area.
The explosion took place at around 9.15 p.m. when these MT personnel were working.
The victims have been identified as Havildar (Sergeant) T S Bhaskar, Naik (Corporal) Lalit Kumar, Lance Naik (Lance Corporal) J Topo, and driver JS Rai.
" Army team are investigating the reason behind the explosion. There were four casualties, out of whom one died in the Military Hospital and three died at the cantonment area," said Jasbir Singh Randhawa, Inspector of Police, Jalandhar.
Meanwhile, the army authorities cordoned off the entire Jalandhar Cantonment and even the local police were not allowed inside.
The 11 Corps with its Headquarters at Jalandhar, under the Western Command, is a prime formation of the army overseeing the frontier of India with Pakistan. (ANI)
