Land Scam: Kapoor warns against media trial

New Delhi, Dec 2: Prescribing restraint against media coverage over the Darjeeling land scam, Army chief General Deepak Kapoor in a television channel has advised media against passing judgement as it would demean the army's as well the nation's reputation.

"Judgements should not be passed on senior officers prematurely because it brings the image of the army and the nation down," Gen Kapoor said, urging the media to allow the court verdict to be finalised so that the guilty can be brought to book.

So far the court has indicted Lt Gen Avadhesh Prakash, military secretary at the army headquarters, and Lt Gen P K Rath in the land scam for flouting rules to grant land to a private company which made the false pretext of building educational institution in Sukhna, Darjeeling.
