Google to limit free website access

Washington, Dec 2: After drawing flaks from News Corp chairman Rupert Murdoch, Google has instructed publishers to limit the number of articles which can be read for free through its search engine.

In a sharp criticism against Google, Murdoch had accused the search engine of stealing stories and profiting from indexing news from other newspapers without sharing advertising revenues.

Taking the allegations seriously, Google has decided to incorporate 'first click free' program where users can get a free access to the first page but has to pay as they click related links in the website.

"Now, we've updated the program so that publishers can limit users to no more than five pages per day without registering or subscribing," said Josh Cohen, Google senior business product manager.
