J&K prepaid mobile phone ban to stay
Jammu, Nov 27: Union home ministry has said that the ban on prepaid mobile phones in Jammu and Kashmir will not be lifted unless there is a complete closure on terrorists using the facility.
Stating that terrorist are still using prepared services which are yet to expire, an official said that the decision which would cause discomfort to 3.8 million subscribers across the state was to curtail terrorists activities in the state.
"It's not a question of how many of these prepaid mobile phones were being misused. The fact is that they were being misused by terrorists for their sinister designs. They were giving orders on mobile phones and getting people killed, especially policemen," said the official.
Following the home ministry announcement, issuing of SIM cards for prepaid connections have been stopped in all cell phone service providers in Jammu and Kashmir, while instruction have been given to stop the recharging of existing ones from Nov 1.
