SC rejects Mayawati's plea on Taj corridor scam
New Delhi, Nov 16: Mayawati's appeal to Supreme Court to nullify a PIL against her in the Taj corridor scandal has been rejected on Monday, Nov 16.
Mayawati had made the plea to Allahabad High Court on the ground that the opposition may used it to topple her government.
Rejecting Mayawati's claim, the bench comprising of justices, B S Sirpurkar and B Sudershan Reddy said that the destabilisation of government is not the court's concern and it found no reason to interfere in the matters of the government.
The PIL was filed by Kamlesh Verma and two others against Mayawati when the then state Governor T V Rajeswar refused to grant sanction to the CBI to prosecute Mayawati in the Taj Corridor Scandal.
The scandal refers to the illegal sanctioning of construction of shopping mall and other recreation centres in the Taj corridor at public cost.
