B'lore: IAF corporal kills lover with iron rod

Bangalore, Nov 13: Unable to come to terms with the fact that the girl he was with for years had spurned him, 27-year-old Dushyanth K Sahoo took the extreme step of murdering her on her birthday.

Sahoo who a corporal in the Indian Air Force had been in the decade-long relationship with 27-year-old Jharna Rani Samal, a PhD student at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) in Bangalore.

Jharna had recently broke the news to Dushyanth that she was in love with a fellow PhD student and asked him to move one. Evidently upset over this, the jilted lover told Jharna that he wanted to come to Bangalore and personally discuss this.

Dushyanth who arrived in Bangalore on Thursday, Nov 12 morning called Jharna to a hotel in Yeshwantpur. When she went there at 1 pm, Dushyant killed her by smashing her head with an iron rod after an argument over the break-up.

Policemen and hotel staff who heard the screams of Jharna broke open the door and rushed her to a hospital where she died at around 3.30 pm.

The police have arrested Dushyant. And since he came to Bangalore with a rod in his bag the police have declared that it was a premeditated murder.
