Primary Articles Raise Inflation Rate to 1.21 pc

New Delhi, Oct 22: India's annual inflation rate rose to 1.21 per cent from 0.92 per cent owing to hike in the prices of primary articles and manufactured goods to 0.3 per cent and 0.1 per cent respectively according to the Weekly Wholesale Price Index(WPI) on Thursday, Oct 22.

The data released by Industry Ministry recorded 14 per cent rise in the price of fish and other marine products, rice 3 per cent, urad, arhar and wheat 1 per cent.

Price of Onion rose to 26 percent, potato 20.03 and other vegetables 20.8 per cent, over the 52-week period ended on Oct 10, 2009.

However prices of fuel, power, light and lubricants remained unaffected while prices of fruits and lubricants falling to 2 percent and jowar and Bajra to 1 per cent.


Expecting a better response to WPI,a monthly WPI is expected to start on Nov 14, 2009, the base year for which will be 2004 instead of 1993.
