Excess of release of water from Nepal barrage maroons UP villages
Sitapur (Uttar Pradesh), Oct 12 (ANI): Excess water released from Banbasa barrage in Nepal has marooned residents of 15 villages in Uttar Pradesh's Sitapur district.
Ghagra, Kewani and Chauka rivers in the district are overflowing. undreds of villagers have been affected.
"Everything has been swept way. We are starving as water has entered our hearths. No one from the authority has visited us," said Rekha, a villager.
The authorities said the situation is particularly grim in 12 to 15 villages. The situation would improve in next 12 hours.
"It is true that the release of 336,000 cusecs of water by Banbasa barrage in Nepal has caused flood like situation. The condition of 12 to 15 villages are serious, but as per my knowledge in next 12 hours, the water will recede and the situation will improve," said Sanjay Kumar, district magistrate.
The district official said they have dispatched officials to provide necessary aid in the affected areas. (ANI)
